White in wings shows well in flight. Often in large winter flocks. Sings from prominent perch or during display-flight.
Lively, musical tinkling or twittering interspersed with short trills, drawn-out whistles and twanging notes.
Rapid tett-tett-terrett or similar, and a soft hoooi or tsooeet.
Heaths and commons with scattered trees, farmland with hedges and thickets, parks and gardens. In winter, extends to stubble fields and various weedy areas as well as coastal marsh and shoreline.
